‘SKIN IN THE GAME’

KIM TONG

Opening night 11th November 2022

Ben Oakley Gallery are proud to present the wonderful Kim Tong

‘Skin in The Game’

Kim has been painting for many a year and then some.

She initially exhibited amidst the emerging field of identity politics in the 80s and 90s. This work was favourably reviewed (notably by Spare Rib Magazine) which led to her inclusion in the late 90s in both a North West Arts Council UK touring exhibition ‘Lines of Desire’ exhibiting alongside Paula Rego and the International touring Drawing Exhibition ‘Reclaiming The Madonna’.

Kim’s new series of oil paintings were completed over the last 3 years and continue a dialogue on the eternal themes of desire, beauty, the Sublime and it’s representation.

“Lost in the Wilds of Painting, the drip, the splash, the slide and the slip of the paint. Imagery culled from media that was and media that wasn’t. False memories, true traces, things half remembered and things half forgotten. Revealing and concealing layers of pigment, erased lines – talking loud, saying nothin’. Whispering something.

At the beginning of each painting I bet the farm. Chasing the dragon. Painting? That’s how it goes ……Bringing up Bambi. Painting ? I’ve skin in the game “

We would like to invite you all to the opening drinks reception on Fri 11th November 2022 7pm -10pm Especially as this is our last solo here at the legendary No 9 Turnpin Lane SE10.
