DESCRIPTION:3riptych \n\n\n\n\n\nBen Oakley Gallery presents ‘3riptych’\, an exhibition by John Pedder and Patrick Colhoun. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis exciting exhibition pairs two artists who use traditional method and craft in the most contemporary and innovative way. The connections between what appear to be two highly disparate practices are remarkably strong. The use of contemporary imagery and material is ever present\, as is the strong sense of humour and pathos running through the work. \n\n\n\nAn obvious connection for the artists is the joint use of strong\, vibrant colours in a repetitive way. For Pedder\, the aging process and ongoing miniscule degradation of a woodcut block allows individuality in repetition and similarly for Colhoun\, the repetition of individual hand built ceramic sculpture from the starting point of identical ACAD generated templates creates completely unique pieces within a defined set. \n\n\n\nThese connections and challenges have shaped the title\, theme and content of the exhibition\, ‘3riptych’\, with the presentation of work in terms of sets of three brightly coloured pieces. \n\n\n\nJohn Pedder’s practice is woodcut printmaking. As the artist states\, it slows him down\, and allows him to put great industry into the simplest mark. It also offers the magic of happenstance and unpredictability which allows no end of inspiration and frustration\, but mainly inspiration. By making the decision to fully embrace two dimensions so the work is right on the surface of the paper the artist creates restriction to search for creativity. \n\n\n\nPatrick Colhoun’s practice is primarily hand built ceramic sculpture using slab building as the predominant technique. The addition of unconventional materials such as hosiery\, Meccano\, latex and piercings\, and also the subject matter and form take this practice as far away from traditional craft as is possible to go. As borne out in previous exhibitions in the Ben Oakley Gallery the artist uses his practice as a means of personal stability within challenging times. \n\n\n\nWe are looking forward to seeing everyone in the Ben Oakley Gallery. \n\n\n\nCheers Ben

Initially opening as a platform for emerging artists in an old crumbly bakery at the beginning of austerity 2011 we made the leap of faith and proudly went on to offer numerous fresh-faced artists their 1st solo shows. Many of who have continued to grow in the difficult and loaded Art World. Never forgetting our roots as our free spirited creative reputation grew we attracted more established artists from all over the Art World who all encouraged and hung happily alongside the younger artists\, cementing the core ethos of the gallery.    \n\n\n\nOur next exhibition ‘10 years Strong’ starting on Friday April 16th 2021 will be celebrating 10 Years Collecting\, selling and loving Ben Oakley Gallery’s’ time here in Greenwich. DESCRIPTION:Ben Oakley Gallery launches a joint exhibition from Jo Peel & Mark McClure \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us in the Gallery with a drinks reception on Friday 11th September from 7pm. Exhibition continues until 4th October. \n\n\n\nFor those of you who can’t make it to the Gallery please enjoy our Virtual Gallery online…. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHaving worked with Artist Jo Peel over the last ten years we are excited to welcome her back into the Ben Oakley Gallery her works are sophisticated and have an uplifting edgy feel they have evolved over the years but haven’t lost any of Peels atmospherics and detailed observations of our urban surroundings. She has travelled extensively continually painting huge walls around the globe\, was the first Street Artist to paint a wall at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show and continued to produce exquisite screen prints and original paintings on canvas\, one of which now resides in the Sheffield Museum. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMark McClure is new to the gallery so we’d love you to give him a hearty BOG welcome. Marks’ geometric striking works grace public city walls to gallery walls internationally and across the UK. \n\n\n\nHis larger exterior works take on an abstract architectural feel and mirror their surroundings as he uses his distinctive palette with dynamic shapes. \n\n\n\nMcClure’s’ interior pieces are also bold and structural\, they include multi layered screen prints\, original one off pieces working with wood\, paint and a variety of mediums all with a strong graphic visual appeal. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHaving both worked together on Living Walls with the mighty Moniker Projects in 2014 a plan was hatched to produce a series of unique collaborations together and individual works for a two person show. Though down to each other’s busy commitments the show has had to wait until now. We hope you all make time to see the show here at Ben Oakley Gallery Greenwich London SE10. Friday 10th July 7pm. \n\n\n\n‘I’ve Really Done It This Time’  “Another one of those sayings I heard circling round my head as I attempted to grow up.” Ben Oakley\n\n\n\nIf you can’t make it in person then a Virtual Gallery Experience will be available here on Friday 10th July  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOver the years self taught artist Oakley has zig zagged across the art world\, his obsession of collecting objects has \n\n\n\nincreased and evolved into his love of assemblage. It’s about aesthetics\, nostalgia\, and balance\, with a heaped teaspoon of surreal humour. \n\n\n\nHis love of the Nicky Nacky Noo & beyond began in the 1970s when as a child he would be taken to Bermondsey Market where his mother worked on a stall selling Silver & Antiques. He soon appreciated the craftsmanship and variety of the stall holder’s wares that surrounded him from jewels to junk. \n\n\n\n“It might be a silver pocket watch case that catches my interest for its pure design aesthetic which in turn inspires me to start thinking\, how can I use this as a base for a piece of artwork? Then as I wade through my vast collection of treasures a glass eye pops up and fits the bill\, then to complete it\, a set of false teeth I’d bought for a different project emerges annd BINGO.” Ben Oakley\n\n\n\nTaking this into account over the last 25 years working as an artist the vast majority of Oakley’s work has been ‘Art Cycled’ as he calls it.  \n\n\n\n“I would rather use an Indian Tin Plate ceiling panel or a Vintage French Shutter to paint on in stead of a canvas\, then frame them in a contemporary way to give them a future life with an instant historic feel.” “I want to create interesting works that have a combination of intrigue\, elements of surprise and appeal.” Ben Oakley\n\n\n\nStay Safe  & Love the NHS   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThanks as usual for your continued support.

DESCRIPTION:Ben Oakley Gallery supporting NHSHEROSUPPORT Opening date 21st May 2020 runs til 31st May  \n\n\n\nTHANK YOU ’19’ our lockdown Window exhibition raised £1\,595.00 for nhsherosupport. \n\n\n\nFirstly we hope everyone is well. We have been trying to do our bit so far but wanted to connect to everyone and go that little bit further.  \n\n\n\nWe have asked around 19 artists to help raise money for the much-needed PPE we unfortunately keep hearing about and have teamed up with NHSHEROSUPPORT to get these supplies procured & delivered up & down the country. DESCRIPTION:Joint Exhibition. ‘MORE THAN THE FACE’\n\n\n\n\n\nA Joint Exhibition of two artists we have admired & worked with for the last few years and are excited to show them together now in one show. With every joint show we do we ask the artists to collaborate on a couple of pieces and produce an exclusive print through the Ben Oakley Gallery. \n\n\n\nRaffaella Bertolini \n\n\n\nHails originally from Italy but has settled into the chaos of London over the last ten years.  She is a storyteller who finds inspiration in a variety of artistic expressions\, incorporating elements of her various muses\, which lately come from an urban/street art influence. In her mixed-media paintings\, as well as in her beautifully detailed drawings\, she explores themes of sensuality\, humour\, religion\, and mental health. Her exceptional paintings have been exhibited in London & New York & many reside in collections World Wide. \n\n\n\n Lewis Bannister \n\n\n\nWe are grateful that Lewis’s art teacher handed him a copy of ‘Spray can art’ at school\, this inspired him to pick up a can and produce his own distinctive style of work that is now loved by so many. Bannisters’ work has a wide range of styles and skills from Oils to Spray paint working on unusual substrates including Cardboard\, Street signs and paper currency from around the world. His exquisite miniature paintings range from satirical and politically charged scenes to humorous cartoon figures with a dark edge.
